Using tiling to hide pipework

In a bathroom, there is the obvious bathtub, shower, sink and toilet that usually feature. And when people come to design their dream bathroom, whether it be the main bathroom, an en-suite or the downstairs bathroom, something that few think about is the unsightly pipes and drainage.

We have just dealt with exactly this issue and a client in the South Side of Glasgow. When they decided to convert their current under stairs cupboard into an extra bathroom for the home, they hired a plumber to begin installing the water and drainage pipes. But when they finally picked their toilet and sink, the designs exposed the pipework that had already been installed.

Now there are a lot of Victorian style homes where this exposed pipework can become a visual design feature but with modern plastic plumbing pipes, this is somewhat more difficult.

So when the sink was put in, you could easily see the plastic water pipes behind (not a good look). When Were Tiling turned up to work on the tiling for the bathroom the customer was understandably a bit down.

At Were Tiling we want to ensure that each and every tiling project we work on for our customers meets their satisfaction so what did we do…we built a concealing panel that we then tiled on top of. It is easy to remove the panel for the times when a plumber would still need access to the pipework behind.
So the customer has their dream downstairs bathroom with beautiful mosaic patterned tiling on the floor and lower wall panels (which then doubles as a splash back for the sink).

It is another example of why we love what we do and why our customers happily recommend us to others. We don’t just do a great job, we provide great solutions to ensure that the end result is better than you could have possibly imagined.
