Mosaic tiling was a common style from the Edwardian, Victorian and Georgian eras therefore it is common to find these tiled designs in homes from that period. It is truly amazing how often we receive calls from new home owners who have simply lifted up an old carpet and found original mosaic tiling floors in need of restoration.
For tiling features that are over 100 years old, it is understandable that there will be loose tiles, cracked tiles caused by impact drops and of course, many decades of general grime and foot traffic which will have worn away and faded these truly impressive decorative tile designs.
When we work for a customer, we take nothing for chance. Our goal is to deliver a high quality finish and as close to original mosaic tile restoration project for you. So when we begin, our first job is to analyse the substrate beneath the mosaic tiled floor.
This allows us to refit the tiles so that they can be fitted flat and flush with any tiles that do not need to be removed or replaced. While we will move heaven and earth to fully restore original tile pieces, there is often a situation where the tiles have simply been too badly damaged to be repaired. In this situation, we send a selection of the tiles to our tile supplier in London so that they can be precisely colour and style matched. Our aim is for any replacement tiles to be ‘invisible’ and simply look as if they were infact one of the original tiles that has been restored.
Once any tiles that need to be removed and refitted has been completed, we will carry out a deep clean of the tiling using specialist floor machines.
