Across Newcastle Upon Tyne, we provide homeowners with internal and externa Victorian Tile Restoration services for all Mosaic and Geometric tiling styles.
We are Were Tiling and we are Newcastle born & bred. As a local tiler in the area, we have grown to cover all of North East England & Scotland for Victorian, Georgian & Edwardian Tile Restoration.
What is tile restoration?
It is simply the name for restoring, repairing, cleaning and sealing Geometric and Mosaic floor tiling. While these contemporary tiled designs are beautiful works of art, they are over one hundred years old and therefore have suffered through decades of foot traffic, freezing Newcastle winters (and occasion summer heat waves), and other day to day issues such as rising damp, impact drops and even traffic vibrations on busy roads.
All of this means that so many of these period tiling features need to be restored, cleaned and retiled.
What is the difference between your tile restoration work and a conventional tiler doing the same thing?
Victorian tile restoration is not the same as modern tiling work and should never be undertaken by anyone other than an experience Artisan restoration tiler. At Were Tiling, we are a specialist tiler. We are fully trained, qualified and accredited to work on the restoration of period mosaic and geometric tiling. So for example, Minton Tiles were one of the most popular tile manufacturers of the Victorian era. We are experienced in working on the restoration of Minton Tiles and work with tile suppliers who can colour and style match Minton Tiles so that when we conduct a tile restoration project, we can keep the original look as close to exact as possible.
We always endevaour to restore as much of the original period tiles as possible but on occasion, this is simply not possible as a tile has become too badly damaged to be repaired. In this situation, we can replace the tile with a new identical replacement. Keeping your Victorian Tiled floor as close to original as possible.

We were replacing a carpet in our hall and discovered the original Victorian tiling was still there. Andrew came to our home, looked at the tiling and gave us a quote with no hassle. His attention to detail and careful and methodical approach are clear in the end results. We are so delighted with the work that he has done. We never thought about having a tiled hallway but we are more than delighted with the results and it has increased the value of our home considerably.
We were looking for our Storm Door area and hallway to have a matching contemporary geometric tile design to them. We want a modern take that worked with our period Victorian home. Andrew was one of three tilers we call. He was the only one who took any measurements and really looked at the set up that we wanted. We went Were because they seemed to know what they were talking about and we were impressed with their detailed quote breakdown. It meant we knew exactly what to expect. And the end result - we could not be more happy with the end results. Our hallway looks better than ever.
